Chicken chopper
Right at the start of my knife making journey , a mate of mine dropped off a fly sawmill blade that he through might be suitable for knife making.
I cut out a chopper style blade but quickly realised that unknown steel requires some guesswork when it comes to how to heat treat it. I got sidetracked and started using known steel because I figured that all the hard work that goes into making a knife shouldn’t be then left to the chance that the heat treatment wont work.
The blank sat in my workshop for a few years until recently when my youngest daughter asked specifically for a chopper that she could chop chickens up with. I pulled the old blade out and using some of the knowledge I had picked up in the ensuing years, had a guess at how it should be heat treated, and it worked!
I figure if it is tough enough to chop a bit of firewood, it will handle the chickens with no problems!
